Asin's next project is Ashutosh Gowariker's Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey with Abhishek Bachchan.

Asin's next project is Ashutosh Gowariker's Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey with Abhishek Bachchan.
Just one film old in Bollywood and Asin Thottumkal has had more than her share of controversies. The miffed actress, who is a superstar down south, wonders why "people are targeting" her.

"Please tell me why people are targeting me? I don't know why everybody is trying to give me a hard time. I am a newcomer, what have I done (in Bollywood)?" asked an exasperated Asin. "I am clueless why people are just interested in creating stories which are not true about me. I haven't figured that out," she added.

"Apparently a lot of rubbish has been written about me and most of my interviews are wasted clarifying those," said Asin.

The 23-year-old made her Bollywood debut opposite Aamir Khan in the hit psychological action thriller Ghajini last year and became an overnight sensation.

She has, however, been caught up in a string of rumours - a recent one being that the actress refused a role in Farah Khan's next directorial venture, Happy New Year, opposite Shah Rukh Khan.

"It was just a fabricated story. The publication retracted it in the very next issue and came out with an apology the very next day. Farah and I are friends. I am really very fond of her as she is of me. That's about it. We haven't talked about working together in a movie at all," Asin said, slamming the gossip.

"It was just a figment of somebody's imagination. Farah has just started working on the script. Obviously, she hasn't reached casting stage," she added.

The other controversy involves Asin and her London Dreams co-star Salman Khan. The first rumour that appeared was that she was at loggerheads with Salman's girlfriend Katrina Kaif. It was reported that Katrina got upset when she heard that her beau was helping Asin find a house in Mumbai.

"I don't even know Katrina, for god's sake! I have worked with Salman in one film and my relationship with him has been friendly, professional. Nothing more or less than that," she asserted. "I don't know why people link actors who work together!"

Then came news that her father allegedly had a disliking for Salman. "What rubbish? They get along like a house on fire and are very buddy buddy with each other. They gang up against me and pull my leg.

In fact, I am the odd one out when they are together. They are such good friends that despite his busy schedule, Salman painted a portrait of my dad, signed it and gifted it to him. That's the rapport they share. I really don't know where these stories are coming from," she said.

And what about her seasoned co-stars reportedly insisting that she asked her father not to accompany her on the sets of her movies? "It's not that my father's forever hanging around on the sets.

For one of the foreign schedules, he did accompany me, but that was about it. I don't know why people tend to make out this whole big hullabaloo about bringing my dad. It's completely fabricated nonsense," she said.

"Poor thing, he is sitting at home, minding his own business. I don't know why he has to be dragged into controversies. It is quite annoying when somebody writes about your parents. Please leave my father out of all this.

"I am the only person in the limelight. If anybody wants to write anything true or false, write about me. But don't drag my parents into it. It's really not appreciated," she said.

Releasing October 30, London Dreams has been produced and directed by Vipul Shah and also stars Ajay Devgn.

Asin's next project is Ashutosh Gowariker's Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey with Abhishek Bachchan.

South India Actress Asin upset on next film assignment

South India Actress Asin upset on next film assignment
After registering a super hit on her debut, Asin would expect her next film to create the same magic. But, she is left utterly disappointed after seeing the promos of 'London Dreams', her second film with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan in the lead.

The promos of the film show her in just one shot while Salman and Ajay have a larger share of it. Now, a disappointed Asin makes it a point to let producer-director Vipul Shah know about her displeasure.

"When Asin learnt that she was hardly a part of the first theatrical promo of the film, she spoke to Vipul. Asin is very eager to see the response of the audience, especially since this will be her first release after Ghajini which was the biggest hit of last year. However, she was very disappointed with the promos. Vipul explained to her that since it is the story of two friends, he needed to have more of Salman and Ajay in the first promo. However, Asin was far from convinced and is sulking," a Mumbai daily quoted a source as saying.

When Vipul Shah was contacted by the daily, he clarified that Asin was not sidelined and expressed hope that other promos of the film would set things fine. "All I want to say is that this is just the first teaser of the film. Please don't be in a hurry to judge anybody's importance and let me say clearly that Asin is a very important part of my film. Let some other promos release and everything will be fine. I am aware that this is Asin's first release after 'Ghajini' and the expectations are huge. Let me assure everybody, especially fans of Asin, that they won’t be disappointed."

Asin's prestigious Indo-Japanese project

Asin's prestigious Indo-Japanese project
Kamal Haasan has apparently pulled out of the big-budget Walt Disney production which also happens to be Asin's prestigious Indo-Japanese project, The 19th Step. The shelved project has now left Asin with tons of time that she has set aside not only to learn and practice the ancient art of Kalaripayattu but also to shoot for the film in Japan and Kerala.

According to sources the project has fallen through for no fault of Asin's. Says the source: "The film's producers Walt Disney and leading man Kamal Haasan have had a serious disagreement. He isn't doing the film. And if Kamal Haasan isn't doing the film, neither is Asin. She agreed to do a Tamil film at this juncture when her Hindi career has taken off, only because of Kamal Haasan whom Asin respects a lot."

At the time of writing this, The 19th Step seems as good as shelved. And Asin, inundated with offers is work-less! Unless she quickly accepts another project to fill the empty date diary.

"Asin is upset with the way the whole Indo-Japanese project was managed. After Vipul Shah's London Dreams, she said no to everything in Mumbai including Priyadarshan's De Dana Dan and Farhan Akhtar's Kartik Calling Kartik for 19th Step when Kamal Haasan, whom she respects immensely, requested her to," said a source close to the actress.

Asin said that being a thorough professional, she is quite comfortable doing romantic scenes

Asin said that being a thorough professional, she is quite comfortable doing romantic scenes

It is a common thing for many starlets to ask their moms to accompany them to the sets. However in the case of the Ghajini girl Asin, it is different. Instead of hr mom, it is her dad who accompanies her to the sets. He is a permanent fixture at the sets where Asin is shooting.

No one has any objection to the presence of Asin’s dad on the sets, least of all Asin. The sexy starlet has to do many intimate scenes as part of the requirements of the script. O when she was asked if she felt uncomfortable doing romantic scenes in the presence of her dad Asin replied in the negative.

Asin said that being a thorough professional, she is quite comfortable doing romantic scenes as she knows that she is only doing her work. Her dad also understands this perfectly. With the king of moolah Asin rakes in, why would he have any objections?

Asin spoke to the Kerala media for the first time in Thiruvananthapuram - Exclusive

Asin who shot to fame in Bollywood with her debut film Ghajini, is not just a lucky girl. Today this pretty girl from Kochi is looked upon as the next big thing in Bollywood. Asin spoke to the Kerala media for the first time in Thiruvananthapuram

When did you decide to enter Bollywood?
It was not a calculated move. It just happened that when Aamir Khan saw me in Tamil Ghajini and he decided to repeat me in his film.

How do you rate your performance in Ghajini?
I am the worst critic of my own acting. I am never satisfied.

What does Asin mean?
It means ‘pure’ or ‘without blemish’, is a confluence of Eastern and Western culture. The word ‘A’ is from Sanskrit and ‘Sin’ is Western. It symbolises the modern Indian, she explained. In fact, my name is so unique that I am yet to have come across anyone with a similar name. Thanks to my parents. They did not want me to be segregated on the basis of any caste or religion when they gave me such a unique name.

Will you do women centric roles in future?
There is an acute shortage of women-centric scripts. Everyone knows that our industry is hero dominated.

What excites you to take up a film?
It is the script, my character in the movie, the production house, the director and finally my hero.

The grapevine has it that you have competition from Nayanthara. Please comment?
I don’t compete with anyone else. I am my own competitor and I strive hard to better my performance and believe that I have a long way to go.

What is your biggest strength?
My flair for learning languages has helped me a lot. When I came to Chennai the only word I knew was Aaama(yes) but soon I learned how to read, write and converse fluently and started dubbing in my own voice. I have dubbed for my Telugu films and now done sync sound for Hindi Ghajini.

You have bagged almost five prestigious awards this year. What do awards mean to you?
Awards are like additional bonus. A sort of energizer for more inspired performances. But I consider audience acceptability as the biggest award for any actor.

Will you be doing another Malayalam film?
Why not? (Smiles) I will do a Malayalam film if the script and character are good

Your next film?
After completing Vipul Shah’s London Dreams with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan I will be doing a trilingual international project titled 19 Steps directed by Bharat Bala. The film is being produced by Walt Disney and a good portion will be shot in Kerala.

Kamal Haasan plays an important role in the film which also has popular Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano. It is scripted by M.T.Vasudevan Nair, and tells the tale of a Samurai warrior trying to conquer the ancient Indian martial art of Kalaripayattu.

Can you talk about your experience of working with Resul Pookutty?
Resul and Rahman have made all Indians proud..

I have been fortunate to be associated with the best of the best in my debut film in Hindi, be it Aamir, Rahman or Resul. Normally, a boom mike is used for sync sound, but Resul wanted to experiment and he literally wired me up with lapel mikes which I had to hide under my costumes.

Everything went off well, though I was a bit uncomfortable. Later when I saw the rushes I realized the trouble Resul took to get it perfectly right. He is an amazing technician.

Bollywood "Ghajini" - SouthIndian Actress Asin Interview

Bollywood Ghajini - SouthIndian Actress Asin Interview

Ritesh Sharma, TWF, Bollywood Trade News Network

She can call herself lucky but even that will be an understatement. For actress Asin it was a dream come true making her Bollywood debut opposite Aamir Khan in GHAJINI. And it seems her dream run continues, as she will be next seen opposite Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan in Vipul Shah's LONDON DREAMS. With two big projects to start off, Asin is today enjoying life and Bollywood. The actress speaks to our Correspondent, about life after GHAJINI, her next project LONDON DREAMS and more

You had a great start to your career indeed. How are you feeling right now?

It's simply great. I can't explain it. (Smiles) It's fabulous, fantastic and I feel at the top of the world. The way the entire industry has accepted me and has appreciated my work in GHAJINI is really very encouraging.

Not many are fortunate to get such good debut and that too opposite Aamir Khan.

Yes, I am really fortunate. I am glad that everyone besides appreciating my performance has enjoyed the movie also. And I am happy that I got to start my career opposite Aamir Khan. It is really great working with him and the best part is you learn a lot working with him.

Are the feelings similar... given that you are already a star in the South and now Bollywood is again a new place now?

The reception has been almost similar though Bollywood is a national platform so it has much more thrills and the picture gets bigger here. I am more thrilled because I have been able to be part of a good film twice. The film was a hit in south and I really enjoyed playing the role of Kalpana but I never thought I would be part of this film again.

So how did the offer come in?

Aamir watched the film and called me up to say that I have done a good job. I never realized that he was planning to remake it and one day it happened so. I got another call and I was on. (Smiles)

That sounds great but you have another film too, LONDON DREAMS.

Oh yes and that is what I am looking forward to now. I am shooting for it and I hope that film too gets equally good response from the audiences.

When you thought of doing GHAJINI did the language pose a problem?

No, never...really. I am absolutely comfortable with my Hindi and that was never an obstruction while doing GHAJINI in Hindi. You can make that out from the film itself now that it has released. The entire film has been shot in sync sound. You know how particular Aamir is about these things... so you can make out how good is my Hindi. (Laughs)

Besides director AR Murugadoss, you are the only common link between the two GHAJINIS...

Bollywood Ghajini - SouthIndian Actress Asin Interview

And I am really happy being that. Actually I have known Murugadoss for a long time, have worked with him and we know each other's style of working, so we share a different comfort level working together.

Did you try and improvise while playing the role of Kalpana this time?

Not really because I knew people would love to watch Kalpana the way it was in the original GHAJINI. The character was loved by all; hence I didn't do anything intentionally. But maybe subconsciously there might have been some improvisations.

So what are your plans now? Do you plan to go back to the south and continue working there?

Nothing is planned as of now. But it's not that I am here for one or two films. I am here to stay to do more films because I am enjoying it a lot. For the time being I have made Mumbai my base and moreover I am already doing LONDON DREAMS ...so not any soon...

Okay so how is it working with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan?

It's tremendous fun. Both are very talented, at the same time professional. We have a lot of fun on the sets.

And what's the film about?

It's going to be a great film. It's being made on a grand scale and has a great story to tell. The film revolves around the life to three people Ajay, Salman and myself who are the members of a band called LONDON DREAMS. There's comedy romance, drama...everything.

So who are you romancing in this film?

Ha....ha...I'm not going to tell that. Actually I am not supposed to because it will take away the story of the film. But I must say that this film's going to be equally good. Wait till August.

Asin's maid statement in court

Asin's maid statement in court
Asin’s maid, who was alleged to have been kept under illegal detention by the star in Mumbai, appeared before the Chennai police on Saturday and said that she was working with Asin voluntarily.

Asin was caught in this drama when her maid’s family apparently filed a case that their daughter Bula, has been “kidnapped, kept against her will at the actress residence in Mumbai, is abused and now missing”. Based on the complaint, the police had launched investigations and also decided to question Asin.

However, on Saturday Beaulah told the police that she had been working with the star since 2003 and had voluntary left for Mumbai to be with her. “I was not kidnapped or detained illegally by Asin or her associates.

On April 4, a hunger strike by Nadigar Sangam and against the actress asin

On April 4, a hunger strike was held by Tamil cinema condemning Karnataka. There was an order for all actors and technicians to participate in it.

But actors Karthick, Arya, Asin, Simran, Navya Nair, Gopika, Padmapriya, Nila and directors Balachander, Bharatiraja, Mani Ratnam, Shankar and many more did not take part in it. In a meeting held on April 8, it was discussed about taking action against them. The South India Nadigar Sangam, Tamil Film Producers' Council, Directors Association and other associations took part in it. It was decided that those who did not take part in the hunger strike should explain within15 days, otherwise action would be taken against them. The 15-day notice period ends today.

Speaking about it, the General Secretary of Nadigar Sangam, Radha Ravi said:

More than 15 actors did not participate in the hunger strike. They have all written letters of explanation. But Asin has not done so.

Some actors who are not members of the Association did not participate in the strike. We can't take action against them. But they all have sent letters of explanation to us. However, Asin being a member has not sent any letter. Therefore it is right to take action against her.

A decision will be taken after a discussion with all associations. The President of Nadigar Sangam, Sarath Kumar is out of station and as such the meeting will be held on his return.”

There is a likelihood that Asin will be banned from acting in Tamil films.

Malabar beauty Asin's Explanation

Kollywood’s protest on Karnataka’s stance on the Hogenakkal issue, witnessed a huge turnout. Almost all the biggies in Kollywood, including Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan made it to the event, except a few who could not make it due to short notice and prior commitments.

Although the absentees were asked to give an explanation for their absence, Asin seemed to have ignored it. Having given the actress enough notice, the Nadigar Sangam planned to initiate action against her. Meanwhile, the Malabar beauty has sent a letter of apology stating that her commitment as the brand ambassador of a popular brand forbade her from partaking in the fasting.
She also gave an assurance that this would not happen in future. With the letter arriving on time the actress seems to have emerged unscathed this time!
